STEM Professional Development Classes

Summer Professional Development K-12

The STEM Center will deliver individualized, tailored programs in professional development (PD) for kindergarten through twelfth grade teachers that meet district needs and goals. Based on the assessment of district needs, the STEM Center will provide sustained, on- going professional development that will support teachers throughout the school year. Personalized PD will allow teachers to develop skills and strategies that will help them plan and improve instruction in their classrooms.

Math Tool Box

Math Tool Box provides teachers with the tools to help young learners be successful in mathematics by building strong foundations. All content and activities offered in this session are researched based and aligned to the TEKS.

Vibrant Math for Third Grade

3 hours

This professional development focuses on differentiated instruction, visualization of multiplication and mathematizing. Research shows these strategies allow students to attain an “I get it” approach to mathematics!  With the new TEKS, this material will promote skills to effectively ensure that students are well prepared in mathematics. 

3rd-5th Grade

Infusing STEM in the Mathematics Classroom

2 hours

Whether you are an expert or novice in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Infusing STEM offers fun and rigorous ways to do TEKS-aligned mathematics. Participants will explore engineering, learn how to use research-based mathematics, and incorporate hands-on science all within the context of the TEKS. 

3rd, 4th Grade

STAAR Ready for 3rd and 4th Grade Mathematics

1 hour

Spiraling learning leads to deeper understanding in the classroom. STAAR Ready shows participants how to effectively “spiral” and “chunk” for better understanding, recall and transfer.  This course includes 6 weeks of materials for participants to use in the classroom prior to the STAAR exam. 

6th-8th Grade

Infusing STEM in the Mathematics Classroom

2 hours

This professional development shows how to incorporate science in the mathematics classroom.  Using hands-on activities aligned with state standards, participants explore mathematics and engineering using real-world ratios and proportionality. 

6th- 8th Grade

Critical Thinking Skills through Exploration

2 hours

In this session, teachers will use hands-on discovery and cooperative learning to investigate concepts in a format that easily transfers to meaningful learning connections for the student. 

4th- 12th Grade

Technology in the Classroom

3 hours

This is for teachers who desire to infuse more technology in the classroom.  The session includes flipping the classroom, apps to make the classroom more efficient, and Promethean Board technology.

Alignment for Mathematical Success

2 hours

In this session, teachers discover how to vertically collaborate with others ensuring mathematics instruction in the classroom has a firm foundation.

Properties of the Real Numbers:  Why this is Important in Every Math Classroom

1 hour

This session provides a hands-on approach to problem solving while emphasizing the importance of mathematical properties for solid conceptual understanding.
